With steel grade and gas pressure increasing, the requirments to crack arrest toughness in transportation pipeline are also increase.Effect factors on X80 steel impact toughness were studied. Through a great deal of industrial production data,it found that the content of carbon or sulphur influence impact toughness obviously.
In order to satisfy the requirment of minimum 240 J at -20ˇć for the Second West to East Gas Pipeline Project, the carbon mass fraction should be within the range of (0.035~0.065) wt%, and S was Below 0.003wt%.
With the effective grain size of X80 steel strip recduing, yeild strength and impact toughness both increased, fine and equally dispersed M-A structure can effectively improve X80 steel strength, while structure with strip or sharp angel would deteriorate the toughness of X80 steel.
